How do I set up client machines?

How to configure your artist machines to checkout a license from the license server.

The recommended setup for those utilizing a central license server will be to configure client machines to look for licenses on the license server. This requires floating licenses and is not a compatible license configuration with workstation licenses. Workstation licenses are tied to the machine they are installed on (node locked licenses) and cannot be floated across the network. Floating licenses are either LAL (Local Access License) or GAL (Global Access License).

NOTE:

Apprentice and Indie users are only issued workstation (node locked) licenses.

Please see our system requirements page to see what hardware and operating systems are supported.

Basic Setup

  1. Download the Houdini Launcher from our website.

  2. Install Houdini onto the workstation.

  3. Launch the License Administrator and select the edit 🖉 icon next to Servers.

  4. If you do not see your server listed under Found Server(s):, click the Add Custom Server button and type the url of your license server.

Found Servers

If you have setup a network license server, you don't have to install the licensing tools on the workstation as it will look to the remote server for a license.

There are other ways to instruct the client machine to look to the license server.

If you are looking to install licenses locally on the workstation, refer to License a workstation.

If the client is having issues connecting to the remote license server, please check the server firewall. Ensure that the licenses installed on the server have the correct network IP masks.
