I am trying to export a large spline (5000 segments) into Houdini from C4d. I have tried FBX, Alembic, Collada with different options: I either get Houdini crash, or an empty view.

How can I transfer my spline into Houdini?

Thanks.

I haven't found a plugin for that. Is there any?

I was able to open a C4d exported FBX file in Maya, and then exported it as IGES. However, importing the latter crashed Houdini.

Thanks.

I'm not a C4D user but (link) suggests you can export to illustrator, which houdini can read.

(Assuming this is a 2d spline o/c)

Thanks, I was able export an AI file from C4d, but I don't see a Houdini import option for these files. I am on latest nightly build.

Now, you need use geps utility to convert in bgeo format.

From docs: “Houdini reads .eps files from Illustrator 5.5 as planar geometry. It does not import fills, patterns, or colors. ”

BTW, i export in Illustrator 8 and have no problem.

Thanks to everybody who offered suggestions. The problem is solved!

(Actually, one of the FBX exports worked – in case I was seeing an empty view, in fact, my spline was way off the center, panning and zooming revealed it) – yes, this is the first time I opened Houdini.

I will try to track the files that were killing Houdini, and will post them, once I am back to my computer.
