Hi,

I need to have barn doors on some spot lights to controll the lighting. Is this feature available in Houdini? Other than attaching geometry I can't seem to find it on the options or light shaders.

Thanks,

Barn doors? I never seen this before, but Cone Angle in the spot light options doesn't mimic that?

You could also get inside the spotlight and add geometries there and control outside with new parameters in the interface.

Yeah, barn doors like these. They've been around for ages in CG ;-)

Thanks, I'll dig into it and see what I can come up with. But the point of a barn door shader on lights is not to use objects to cast shadows, as shadow rays are expensive.

I think the closest you can get is to use a projector image map. You can use this for gels too.

what about using a light IES profile? Jordi shows how to use them on the Softimage > Houdini guides lightining chapter.

Thanks guys,

I already use an IES profile, but the light projector might work. Using barn doors however allows for fine control over the light distribution without painting and repainting the projector map.

I guess it's time for an RFE ;-)

Thanks again.

Cops will give you some easy control - looks like you hit re-render for IPR though.

Thank you Marty. Of course! The COP way works as well. Much appreciated.
