Hi everyone,
I’ve been using Redshift with Houdini 20.5.278 for a while without any issues, but one day it suddenly stopped working.
After some checking, I found out that my current Houdini build (20.5.278) is no longer officially supported by the newer Redshift versions.
I suspect this happened because I accidentally updated Redshift via Maxon App, and since then, Houdini crashes or throws DSO errors whenever I try to render.
Followed several YouTube guides (editing houdini.env, adding OCIO paths, etc.)
Tried the method of downloading early Redshift plugin versions and manually setting the paths (e.g., 20.5.278 folder under C:/ProgramData/Redshift/Plugins/Houdini/)
Still getting either DSO loading errors or instant crashes when moving the viewport
Is anyone here using Houdini 20.5.278 and has experienced the same issue?
If so, how did you fix it?
Upgrading Houdini or Redshift is not an option for me right now, so I’m looking for a stable workaround for this version.
Thanks in advance!

Hi!
AFAIK only the latest three builds of Houdini will always be supported. For example the lower supported 20.5 version right now in 2025.6.0 is H20.5.584.
You can always check the Houdini supported versions on your installed RS version at this location:
C:\ProgramData\redshift\Plugins\Houdini
If you want to use it with 20.5.278, you will need to downgrade RS; however, I recommend updating your Houdini build, as many things have been fixed and improved since .278.
Hope it helps, cheers!
