Hey everyone,

I have been struggling with the Karma Baker for the last day. Countless tests did not help me to find the root problem. I am sure, there is a fundamental misunderstanding on my side, so maybe some of you Houdini cracks can help me out!

I have this scene where I want to render out my maps with a cage mesh. If I bake without the cage, everything looks fine apart from some artifacts from rays casting too far. So the natural solution would be a cage that limits this. If i set up a cage though it mingles my maps in a weird way. If I use the labs map baker with the cage everthing looks fine... So I cant fully understand where the problem lies.

Any help is appreaciated!

Hi,

Thanks for sharing the hip file.
This appears to be a bug in the cage-mesh mode (specifically in the topology-matching step). I’ll update you once the fix is ready. Thanks!

Menawhile as a workaround you may convert the mesh to quads before trying to bake. This will preserve the topology and results in
a better baking maps.

Please try tomorrow's H21.0 daily build for the Cage Mesh Topology match fix.

Also note that rather than PolyExtrue node, you may need to use Peak node for offseting the Low res mesh inorder to preserve the topology.
