.tar file format

I just downloaded some files from the Exchange. The files are in a .tar
format. What is this format and how(what) do I import them? Has anyone done this before? Please advise.

My personal favourite utility for this is 7-zip [7-zip.org].

Oh, I see the're like .rar files and need to be unzipped. Yes, I have
7-zip. Thank you Edward.
