Why select FG also select BG?

every time I try to select FG vertices to subdivide it automatically selects the BG of the object/geo. Any way to just select the FG? Thx!
press ‘b’ (in viewport) to toggle foreground only selection node, ‘b’ to switch to background and … ‘b’ to go back to foreground/background mode
