Does the expression just work off the last iteration of the name sequence? Like if it's creation_type, creation_type1 it will look at creation_type1 as the last entry in the Switch array of inputs?

Hello, my laptop has an nVidia MaxQ GPU, but I decided to hook up an external GPU (via Thunderbolt) to work on more intensive projects. Maya works fine, but Houdini gives me a blank UI screen. Is there something I need to edit in say the .ENV file?

I ran into this problem with Arnold Renderer. I had a Material node at the end of the Geo Skin chain. But no materials could render off my primitive groups because those attributes had been wiped clean from the Geometry Spreadsheet. So I read this thread, dropped down a File Node to write the contents to a BGEO file, and then read off that BGEO file with all my primitive attributes preserved. Now my materials render just fine.

Windows forced me to restart for a “critical update”, and ended up disabling my 2 Houdini services, including the license server. Thanks for the advice.

I'm currently dealing with this issue in 18.0.348. Have to stick with this build due to using Arnold Renderer. Sucks getting fatal errors while modeling.

Arnold is really good at explosions and smoke. You have to write your simulations to .VBD format, but from there Arnold does a great job of illuminating your explosions without any lighting hacks. The Blackbody data just works.
Arnold also has simple render settings and the ability to add more detail (Volume Displacement) on top of the VBD data.

Hello everyone,
I'm John Draisey, a 3D generalist who has used Nuke for compositing the last few years. I recently started diving into Houdini's Compositing Ops and it looks like there's a way to do zdepth defocus on EXR files. But I'm having trouble using the Arnold Renderer Zdepth pass to get camera bokeh. The distance information when I activate the pixel inspecter is in the 30~60 Thousand range rather than the 0-1 range that I've seen in this tutorial:

If I can do my AOV compositing in Houdini, that would be a big win in terms of workflow. Does anyone have any tips on dealing with the Arnold Zdepth pass in Houdini?
I attached a multi-layer EXR frame as an example.
