Hey,
well.. i installed Fedora Core 4 and 5 so many times since I got this laptop two weeks ago … that now I'll stick with this working Fedora Core 4 seup .. everything works fine.. including others apps… and Houdini at first… I'll try Core 5 when “REAL” Ati drivers (read: working) will comes out.. 100% compatible with new Xorg and all stuffs… I'm really sick about backupping and restoring.. i did it at least 20 times until last night
I'm happy with my setup now.. and I'll wait at least 6 months to move to something else… (and to the new t60p dual core :p)
cheers.

I'm now running it smoothyl on FC4 and I'm so happy with it.. it works really great… I'm on Ati tought.. so my happyness is justified
btw… such “maximize” problem is here too.. just click maximize and should do it… at least it do here.
cheers.

jabbermacy
7800GT baby! You MUST see this card in action - OGL and direct3d performance simply rocks - get the eVGA bungle (includes MB for about $350) if still availible. DO IT - GET IT DONE
I tried Houdini last week on my new “gaming peecee” wich have SLI 7800GTX … yeah.. it runs so fast.. but.. lot of leak and problems.. network view which doesnt show the wire links.. and viewer which often make wireframe disappear… I must admit that the closer and slower Quadro FX1300 runs damn good.
I'm moving all my base to a thinkpad btw.. with ATI (yeah… so dont read my older posts:p) … FireGL V3200 and i can just hope it'll run smooth.. just in case anybody here installed SUSE 10 on such thinkpad (t43p) can give me any advices?.. I'm still unsure if I'd run WinXP or Linux on that thinkpad.. looking forward for your advices…(no, i wont change my mind about laptop.. I'll get a thinkap )
cheers

Like an option to lock a node to a netbox?
So if you moved a node outside a netbox the netbox would grow to accommodate?
exactly.

yup … and if i can add something regarding netboxes…
today I've made few ROPs which where organized in netbox.. and many times when moving or reorganizing such netboxes ROP.. it often happened that by going too close (but not that close) to the netbox border.. the ROP was automatically removed from the netbox .. that said I guess the best way would be a RMB menu with some netbox option like “remove from current netbox” .. and with a preference like “keep OBJs inside netbox” so when you move the OBJs you also ‘stretch’ the netbox accordingly.. this would avoid removing/repositioning OBJs when in netboxes..
cheers.

Yeah i agree with lisux.. I also extensively use netboxes.. and this would help a lot during viewport workflow.

I'm getting a box by connecting the output of a previous geometry on its imput.. (therefore a bouding box).. middle click on box node shows me sizex,y,z as their real size.. while parameters shows me (greyed as they should be) 1,1,1… the problem comes when I want to get its channel from another SOP .. which takes 1,1,1 instead of real values… I'm a wrong or this is a bug?
this also happen with bound SOP.
cheers

sascha
To have more than 4 GB is sometimes nice.
4gb?… afaik 32bit limits is 2Gb. or maybe i'm misunderstanding and u're talking about 53bit and lack of machines which hosts 8gb?
I'm also considering Linux64 on my machine cause I'm really depressed when Houdini crashes (and it does) cause memory limit is reached..
cheers

Since apprentice lets you try the Master anyway … why you dont just start and stick with Apprentice?.. select and escape just lack of some tool but they dont have anything different (GUI or whatever else) which can make you confused once you go Master.. even if you point at compositing only.. just go on the COPs layout …
that's my advice.. i can be wrong tought.
I'm also learning Houdini and I always load the Master suite.
cheers.

Ok… i preferred to spend some time (and damn i did it! ehe) reading it before expressing my comments on the book.
when I recieved it .. i actually was with Andrew Quinn talking about Houdini and pipelines.. and such…
I took a fast view of the book.. but i had no much time to read it until later in the evening after my dinner… at first I was a bit..“oh no.. its for noobs”…
after half hour .. “oh damn … that's a great book”.
Its a great book.. nicely wrote (friendly and really clear and explanatory), with nice examples that points at the real meaning of the tool or chapter explained.
The more i read… the more i love it.
POP's intro by Caleb Howard simply impressed me and left me wordless… stil cant believe at what i've read there..
just a point … about point and copy Sop's, that's true, you'd need an entire book about those two incredibly powerfull tool… then why you didnt gone a bit deeper with some more examples?.. i expected a bit more about those two SOPs.
I also expected a bit more about Expressions but they are wide spreaded around the chapters so I might bewrong yet.. (wasnt supposed to be last chapter Variables and Expression?)
I still have to read it entirely obviosuly.. and I guess I'll do it many and many times.. again.. I love this book.
great work.
