I have fully switched over to OSX for all things work related and Houdini is crashing constantly with nodes that add more geometry like the revolve node, resample, subdivide etc.

Here are my Macbook specs:

MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018)
2.9 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i9
32 GB 2400 MHz DDR4
Radeon Pro 560X 4 GB
Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB

I know not all Macbook Pro graphics cards are supported but I don't to have to spend $3,000 on a new Macbook Pro 16" with a AMD Radeon Pro 5500M just to get Houdini working if I don't have to.

I'm using the most recent production build of Houdini as well. which is 18.0.416. Is trying to get a Macbook Pro working with Houdini futile? Or is it something I'm doing wrong because I can't be the only one having these issues.

In my experience, a lot of crashes on the OSX side tend to be related to file/folder permissions. Many times if Houdini tries to write to a folder that it's not allowed to it will crash. Double check your permissions.

I use Houdini on a Mac Book Air if you can believe that, and it's quite usable and very stable!

Running the latest version of OSX 10.15.4 (rev2) and the current H Production Build.


For the record, my “main” rig is a hackintosh based on a i9 9900k with 64Gb of RAM and an AMD 5700XT GPU. Running the same OSX and Houdini version on there with no issues.
