Viewport Display on Mac Pro

I recently installed Houdini on my new Macbook Pro (Mountain Lion) and found a strange thing about the viewport display.

I didn't change any default setting. Just create a simple geometry, lets say a box. I turn on the “display normal” option and found all normals face outward which is correct. However, the geometry is black outside and bright inside. Then I added a single light for testing and found that where the light hit is black and not hit is bright. It's totally opposite!

The render result is correct. Something wrong with the viewport display.

I appreciate any ideas. Thanks.

Hi,

got to Preferences / 3D Viewport and change your Scene Renderer from GL2.1 to GL 1.2 or try the old H11.

Be sure you also installed the latest updates for your mac.

good luck

Thank you jopa79. It works!!!!
So it's a matter of OpenGL version. Good to know! D

But keep on mind that will lower you GL performances.

This unfortunately appears to be a bug with how the Apple OpenGL driver is setting (or forgetting to set?) the gl_FrontFacing GLSL builtin variable. My AMD 5770 works correctly, but I've heard reports that the Intel HD4000 doesn't.
