Thanks so much for the schooling!

This is a very good starting point for the type of solution I was seeking, and I am truly relieved to see that it's possible here in Houdini -- however long it might take me to catch up to where I am able to set it up myself. Indeed, the ease with which I'd have done this in Softimage (R.I.P.) led me to imagine that a similarly user-friendly feature might be available to Houdinies (is that even a word here?). Well, even lacking that, I really appreciate your taking the time to explain.

Warning to others not to try loading jsmack's example into versions earlier than 19.0 :o

this method is obsolete now. The state of the art method uses coordsys for proper projection support. It even motion blurs correctly.

I wouldn't know anything about arnold, but the mechanism isn't Karma specific, it's part of the USD spec.
