9.5 is a Great release!

though I miss the old Splash screen!

PS. this wasn't ment to be a new thread but a post in the 9.5 goes gold thread….Someone can delete / move it?

Yeh…it's looking great…
but I agree about the old splash…

the new one looks too much like Softimage's Ice or maybe Softimage looks way toooo much like Houdini :wink:

You can't win. Lots of people complained about the old one. Lots will complain about the new one. This is where American sitcoms come from - trying to please everyone…

One positive no matter what is that at least it's an image of something that can be done with Houdini, and it's a rather cool effect.

You can change these to your own renders though can't you?

It's a little bit messy since you need to replace a picture right in the houdini distribution, but yes. It's far, far easier and conducive to good mental health to

setenv HOUDINI_NO_SPLASH 1

after you've seen it a few times.

Is it me or do we have back the slow help system?
In 9.2.244 the help was blazing now it looks again (like 9.1.157) quite slow.
Anybody suffers the same?

C:\Program Files\Side Effects Software\Houdini 9.5.174\houdini\pic

houdinisplash.pic is the one to replace if you're running Master.

That was an official RFE from Framestore… OK, from me, while I worked at Framestore

I wanted to mod it so it would know which version you were launching and make that super big numerals so you never missed noticing what version you ran. Since you can't tell once it's open (unless you go from 8 to 9 of course)

I found the old splashscreen crappy (and poorly executed). The new one is nicer IMO and it shows a real Houdini effect instead of some kitschy “concept”.
That being said, until this thread I never knew there was a new splashscreen, as the old one made me set the no_splash envvar instantly.
