solver node contains the game of life sop in python. press play to start sim. you can paint state of cells on the grid.

just wanted to try python-sop writing and stamping and point setting.
the dot_matrix node, has the python code.

Hello all,
I tried to install Houdini - did it all but couldnt start the license server and all instructions expect to modify the files /etc/hosts and /usr/lib directories which I cant because I'm not root.
Cant I install houdini license server into a subdirectory of my home directory and launch Houdini?
thanks

Thanks Tamte, yes it works on the Impulse Birth Rate.
I thought NPT shouldnt work at all as it is a local variable for a Point SOP?
I'm also having trouble in bringing in a Point attribute created with AttributeCreate SOP into a POP network.
How do I do this?
Thanks again.

Hello all,
I'm trying to use an expression like
$F < $NPT
on the Impulse Activation field of a Source node inside a POP network. But I get an error everytime. -> Cant evaluate expression. In the Impulse Activation field, I get a dropdown and am allowed to pick $NPT from the list. So I'm confused. Should work, shouldnt it? Please help thanks.
I want to generate a particle every frame until I run out of points from the input geometry. My Impulse Birth rate is 1.
Thanks.

sorry if you are sick of lissajous curves but hey clifford pickover urged me to draw spherical lissajous curves in his book ‘computers and the imagination’ and houdini seems the perfect software to do it in!

+++ ability to speed up drawing.
+++ sine & cosine functions modeled as bezier curves - edit them on the channel editor for weird warped drawings.
happy new year!

Work in Progress » procedural swine and coswine on spiral non linear

we tend to simply plug sin and cos functions into our work. but sin and cos functions are just functions that return values in the range -1 to 1. i add 2 float params called sin & cos to a vars node, keyframe them 0 to 360 and bring their values in using channel frame function. geometry is like liquid now
therefore this is a spiral with non-linear radius & procedural sine & cos.
let me know.

spiral with non-linear radius achieved with standard spiral equation but with radius keyframed and brought in using channel frame function.

I've been learning Houdini with Apprentice and this draws the lissajous figures and figures produced by the harmonograph. Press Play to run the simulation. Play with parameters in the vars node.
I've tried to comment the nodes –> I'd be keen to hear what you think of the skinning method used, ideas to use this a jumping off point to learn dynamics & shading in Houdini.
thanks,
jag

hi all
i've been learning houdini (thanks khermah for your amazing tutorials …. slowly getting it but some things remain fuzzy.
i started out with an ambitious goal for this – to model and render saturn and its rings – a long way to go –> as you know the rings have lots of rocks that orbit saturn….
press play for the sim.
u could change the planet_center and a voppop recomputes the velocity and acceleration vectors.
these are perpendicular vectors, acceleration points towards the planet center ie its the gravity but i cant seem to control the magnitude of this gravity vector – i tried multiplying a constant on the acceleration vector in voppop – no luck – any ideas?
btw when i save and reload houdini doesnt seem to remember my selections, attribute display on scene view etc - why?
id like to turn the ring component into a digital asset - any free tutorials ?
thanks again khermah, may god bless you man. i'm out
