Oh wow, that was indeed silly from me, haha. Thank you Jonathan. But it does happen with the redshift render prepended. I can't image what I messed up since it worked for the past month and now I spent two days trying to fix it with no luck.
Then attached here is the fixed version with the Redshift-ROP included. If anyone has RS installed, you could check it out. It currently appears like a bug with Redshift and I just posted a bug report in their forums. But if you manage to point the finger to what I messed up I will owe you a couple of beers.

Very simple setup here:
I render out a frame (initially RS but Mantra for debugging) and convert the output into another colorspace right after the render with an appended cop-rop pointing to a simple “file” COP in a COPnet right next to it.
Unfortunately, the COP-ROP simply does not find the output of the preceding ROP when it should be done.
Attached is also the debug file.
To reproduce, simply execute the comp2-rop in the out context.
Am I doing something monumentally wrong here? This used to work for the past two months and now it doesn't anymore for me and a colleague. We're on Win10 and Houdini 18.0.460 but also went back to 391. It used to work in both versions.

Thanks for the advice. I forgot to mention I was fully aware of that already and have that enabled so it runs in one process. Yet, the simulation is still much slower. Anything else I could try?

I recently built an HDA for our project to simplify the process of caching by adding a couple of features to a filecache. The main feature I intended to implement was a background render through TOPs (With a couple of extra features). Unfortunately, it is a lot slower compared to the normal FG-render, so I assume it is not utilizing the PC resources properly. My tests that excluded all extra features of the TOPs-Render had the exact same result, a much slower simulation (~4-fold time taken). I configured the local scheduler to use all cores except one and set it to process only one item at a time.
Here is the PDG-tree:
(Side note for the partitionbyframe-TOP: that is there to debug a crashing issue with updating the comment.)
And here are the two output directories. On the date modified you can see the difference in speed.
Can you point me in a direction of what I might do against this or is this a conceptual misuse of mine for PDG?

This feature was know to me as well, but it is quite useless as you don't want to get rid of your ability to simply save over your previous file and would create unnecessary amounts of workfile-data. Instead, what I always use is Niklas Rosenstein's great shelf script:

It's very versatile and pretty much unbreakable!

Hello!
I’m a student in fourth year in Animation/VFX at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, currently starting production on our diploma project including some really awesome VFX shots.
The film is a 2 minute social spot promoting renewable energies for private households, the title is “Mother Nature’s Power”. The story will be told with footage shot in Iceland and in a studio and then some disasters at the film’s climax are VFX / Full CG parts.
Here are our three key concepts for what we’ll create photo-realistically later on:
1: Oil Rig being crashed by an iceberg
2: Coal power plant falling into a sinkhole
3: Volcano erupting and the lava turning into solar panels
To get to the point: We already have a big talented roster of film and animation students assigned and scheduled, but we are still looking for help in the department of lighting (Houdini/Redshift/Arnold) and assets (Anything). If you’re a passionate artist looking for opportunities to collaborate then we can provide a platform for potentially awesome portfolio work. We’ll be working on this for a year from now and we are very flexible with scheduling. Remote work is no issue at all as well.
If you are interested, I can send you a project folder with details about our concept and approach as well as our animatic that is almost final and we can talk further.

PDG/TOPs » Royal Render scheduler for TOPs

I just know from a colleague at Filmakademie who (semi-successfully) worked on this for a while and encountered some major conceptual problems in this endeavor. With that I mean the way Royal Render handles tasks versus how PDG handles tasks - what happened easily was that RR was completely flooded with jobs, and that RR demands some information on the status of jobs and was unable to be fed what PDG output normally resulting in instability. It somehow worked, but it was quite problematic and losing a big portion of the flexibility/reliability that PDG should offer.

Hello,
First, I'll me introduce myself briefly. I am a relatively new (2 Months) Houdini user coming from Cinema 4D and Realflow. I am currently working on a purely personal project on a rather large scale - a circa three minute full-cg short film. The film is about a plasmacannon being experimented with in a test-facility, and I have to simulate lots of fluid, but I also need to have some smoke in my scenes.
The programs I plan on using are Cinema for the animation and compositing all the 3D-Elements, Octane for Cinema to render. Initially, I wanted to use Realflow to simulate the fluid, since I am quite confident with it. However, getting into Houdini, I learned how much more flexible the fluids in Houdini are (with point attributes and that sort of flexibility). Now, I am torn between simulating the plasma with Houdini or with Realflow. I would probably get things done much quicker in Realflow, because at the moment every click in Houdini still takes some figuring out from me.
Enough babbling: my real question is whether importing Realflow particles or meshes is at all possible. In my case, I would need to simulate a slight smoke trail behind quickly flying fluid-blobs. One of my concerns would be the need to get velocity data to source the smoke properly.
I would really like to hear your Houdini-expert-opinion on this matter. Thank you very much in advance.
