Hey thanks for clarifying that. Seems like a bit of a shame they don't auto load is there any way to make your own tools that turn up in the TAB menu?

Hi there,
I'm having a bit of trouble getting my head around the way Digital Assets are loaded for a project.
Okay so I save a simple Digital Asset into the /HDA directory under the $JOB directory, now when I restart Houdini, and set the same project, the digital asset doesn't appear in my tab menu.
In the manual it says -
You can put assets specific to a project in $JOB/otls. See project management for how to set up $JOB.

That sounds great, per job assets is exactly what Im trying to get working, but they just don't seem to load (i tried renaming the HDA dir to oils without any luck).
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong here?? Also are otl's and HDA's the same thing???

Hey thanks guys, toggling the grid off works fine. I'm pretty new to Houdini so I hadn't really messed with construction planes but I think they look pretty good.
Drag in view is rad too! If you used middle mouse it auto constrains to an axis too

Just wondering, how do I get it to tweak in screen space? At the moment it seems to be locked in world x,z…

Hi there,
Not that it's a big issue I'd love to figure out what's doing this. It just seems that whenever I export geo to Unity I end up with an extra pr_camera node.
Is there a setting or something to stop this? I thought I was only selecting to export the geo…
Here's the basic export nodes -

Yeah I think i might try and keep it a the SOP level since the connections are nice and easy to understand, just thought I might be approaching it the wrong way.

Hi there!,
Hey I'm really new to Houdini and I keep running into one workflow issue (mostly with Houdini Digital Assets)…
Say I have created a digital asset for the terrain in a scene, and another for trees that will populate that terrain. Would you normally create them as two separate HDA nodes like this -
I feel as though referencing the other object would be messy this way since you can't just wire the landscape to the tree scatter but otherwise would you end up making a whole scene under the one geo node??

Yeah I'm really hoping they get that happening in the next major version.
I stopped using it because switching back and forth is a bit of a pain when your project gets big.

Oh sorry (I worded that badly), I'm running the MBPro 15 on Yosemite. Too scared to test on that as it's my main machine now.
As far as Houdini goes it seems to be working fine though (which is great because it was my main reason for upgrading).

Hey I checked out El Capitan (beta 1) by the way.
I didn't notice any difference in performance with the standard OpenGl. Houdini is still glitchy on my MBPro 17
Works fine on the newer MBPro 15 though so that's good.

Houdini seems pretty picky when it comes to graphics cards on OSX as it is, maybe something like this might actually make it more reliable…

The thing that caught me was that you needed to create the Alpha attribute first. But now that I know that it should be fine.

I do recall seeing the vex bake sop a while back but have not tried it in a while… I am a bit intrigued now that you mention it
I couldn't find it :?
I am totally new to Houdini so it's probably right under my nose somewhere.
The idea of rendering out a temp texture and reloading that into the verts sounds like it could work. I'll have a go at that and see what I come up with.

Hi there,
Just trying to get my head around this,
The Houdini paint sop seems super easy to use for painting colours but I can't seem to get it to paint the alpha channel of vert colours…
I think part of the problem might be that I also don't know how to visualise the alpha in the viewport.
Could anyone point me i the right direction here?

Yeah switching platforms for my project takes quite a while and I'm sure there are larger projects out there.
If the live assets don't work in these builds it would be nice if there was some other way to deal with it, maybe Unity could throw an error if you try and build with live assets or something like that.

Hi all,
Still trying to figure out if this is possible. I found i similar post and they suggested using the Bake Vex SOP but I actually can't find any info on this on the Houdini docs… Has anyone had any experience with it?
