Hey!

I worked for a year with groom in houdini, but as you move to another discipline, it feels like im in a new software. probably very simple answer, but I just havent managed to figure it out.

I have a Maya model of a set with some mockup houses that I am going to replace with some nice houdini houses in Solaris, using Stagemanager. Question. How do I use my Maya set (have it exported as usd) as a template for where to place the houses? (I mean having the set transparent so I can see where to put the houses fallowing the mockup) since in the lops network, I have no Ghost Other objects or Template mode. Is there a nice way to achieve this?

Solaris does not currently support a template flag. I'd recommend importing the Maya model and pruning out parts of it as you replace them. This assumes you can import the model as multiple USD prims instead of as one giant mesh prim...

Hello mtucker.
Is there any chance to get the template flag working by any chance?
Its really hard to make layouts and general working with placing objects without option to see rest of the scene.

Having zillion of object merges, only to be able to see ground for placing is pretty messy.

Same thing with camera.

I would like to click on any node in my Solaris and be able to see it through camera. To be able to do that, i have to merge my camera on the beginning, which makes my scene graph time dependent. The way we work in SOPs, where we can see all cameras in a scene is great.

We are not planning on tackling this in the upcoming release cycle.

I would strongly recommend figuring out a way to have your camera prims created at the top of your graph.

Why are your camera nodes time dependent? Can you use a Cache LOP to eliminate the time dependency?
