You can only buy Houdini Indie on Steam, and then Steam works as the license manager.

What? - I've been buying Houdini Indie through SideFX directly for years now - Not through Steam.

To rephrase: the only available license on Steam for purchase is Indie, and Steam will be the place to run it (and update it) going forward.

Yes, as you mentioned, the only available version of Houdini, on Steam, is the Indie version.
