TORONTO | SideFX is pleased to announce the release of Houdini 18. This release introduces SideFX Solaris, a USD-based context for lookdev, layout and lighting that brings procedural tools to this important part of the pipeline and SideFX Karma Render (beta), a new HYDRA-based renderer that integrates into the Solaris environment. This release also includes SOP-based tools for configuring Destruction and Pyro FX shots and a focus on UX and optimization throughout the software.
Houdini 18 is available today (Nov 27) for download. Commercial customers on AUP will have already received H18 licenses. Houdini Indie customers with active rentals will be receiving their licenses today. Houdini Apprentice can be licensed during the installation of the new version.
Houdini Core and Houdini FX - Houdini Core available for as low as $1,995 USD and Houdini FX available for as low as $4,495 USD. These prices include the Annual Upgrade Plan which provides production-level support, and access to daily builds and all releases and updates. Each of these licenses comes with five Karma render tokens. Studios can request more if needed.
Houdini Indie - Houdini Indie is also available for $269 USD per year or $399 for two years. This version offers limited commercial usage for indie gamers and animators making up to $100K USD per year and cannot be used in the same pipeline as commercial versions of Houdini. Houdini Indie uses its own file format for saving scenes and assets and renders animations up to 4096x4096. These annual licenses include all upgrades therefore existing Houdini Indie users will be issued upgrade licenses on release day. Each Indie license comes with 1 Karma render token.
FREE Houdini Apprentice - For students and artists, SideFX has a free Houdini Apprentice Edition which allows non-commercial usage with a render restriction of 1280x720 and a watermark. Apprentice comes with 1 Karma render token.
