Hi,
I'm an absolute, complete and utter beginner and have downloaded apprentice version 7.0. My problem is that I'm trying to work through the rocket launcher tutorial (for version 5.5) and keep hitting brick walls. After spending nearly 2 hours (most of which was trying to copy the fins) on something that's supposed to take 20 - 30 mins, I'm feeling a bit stupid and wondered whether I would be better downloading the version the tutorial was written for. However as far as I can see, this version hasn't come with an uninstaller and my add/remove progs in XP isn't picking it up! I was also concerned whether my licence would be affected.
Can anyone help me please?
Can I change version

Hello maz,
Welcome to the houdini community! I too am a beginner. I don't know why you don't have an uninstaller but then again I use houdini on linux.
Here's what I do know…
You can download houdini 6.1 and you will be able to obtain a new apprentice license no problemo. I have houdini 6.1 and 7.0 on my computer and they don't bother each other.
Sadly there does not appear to be a download for older versions of houdini so you have to improvise. Wait till you start doing the pdf tutorials and you'll see a major difference in what the docs say and what is actually in the interface.
What you can do is post where you are stuck and I'm sure the houdini masters on here will be able to help you.
You can also sign up for 3dbuzz's free houdini training videos. They should help you get started easily.
Good luck!
Perry

Thanks renderpipe,
I've checked again and there's definitely no uninstall option. Have started the buzz tutorials and things are beginning to make a bit more sense, however I have now realised that I'm missing more than just the uninstall facility. I have none of the help pdf files mentioned, nor the training desktop and I have no icons under the address bar. I'm also getting little repeating fragments all over my viewport.
So I think I'll just start again with the 6.whatever version!!!!
Thanks again.
Maz

It sounds like some of those issues might be related to graphics drivers.
What is your system setup?
Also, what entries do you see on the Houdini windows start menu?
you should have the following
Command line tools
Geometry Viewer
Houdini Master
Houdini Halo
Houdini Escape
Houdini Select
Hscript
Image Viewer
License Administrator
Uninstall Houdini
