Particles emitting inside sphere, rather than outside?

Hello. I am brand new to Houdini. The particular version of Houdini I am using is Houdini Apprentice 16.5.439

The issue I am having is probably a no-brainer, but I can't figure it out.

I am trying to emit particles to drip from a sphere onto a static object. Specifically trying to emit maple syrup onto pancakes.

However, the particles are emitting inside the sphere rather than outside? Perhaps I'm doing it wrong? Here are the steps I take

  1. I made sure the sphere I want to emit from is selected using “Object Select Mode”
  2. I go to -> Particle Fluids -> Emit Particle Fluid
  3. Houdini asks me “Select Fluid object to emit into, if any. Press enter to complete”.
  4. I don't believe I have any, so I make sure my mouse is hovered over the viewport and hit “Enter”
  5. The sphere inflates once it has particles attached to it, but the particles stay inside the sphere. I need them to come out and fall onto the pancakes/static object.

How do I fix this? Thank you.
