Wrist control in FK mode

Hi guys, bumping up my earlier question from another thread: I have an Auto Rig that (so far) seems to do everything I need it to do EXCEPT: when I change arm control mode from IK to FK, I lose the ability to rotate the character's wrist up and down. Imagine the first two movements of the Macarena (arm forward, wrist down) or someone offering their hand to be kissed… so far, I can't animate that motion, because the FK mode takes away the rotation of the wrist, while the IK mode makes it awkward to animate the arm.
Any suggestions?

My suggestion is to open another thread about the same issue - the more you have, the better the chances of getting an answer, as you can already see. Probably not as important, you could post a .hip file with the hand rig for people to take a look at what's going on there.

If anyone decides to look, I have a character (“Tommy”, comes with Houdini) which I Auto Rigged; currently trying to animate him to raise his arms, then drop his wrists as if showing off an engagement ring. Yet, once I have his arms in FK mode (via FK->IK blend on his hand CTRLs), I can't seem to rotate his wrists; and if I use the IK mode, then animating the arms becomes problematic.

… help?

with the default Biped Autorig
set the Hand FK/IK Blend to 0
now you can rotate the arm in FK and select the wrist control and rotate the wrist

@goldfarb I wanted to suggest the same - it's an IK/FK Blending issue, but upon further testing it doesn't seem to work. Or maybe I'm doing something wrong, I haven't played much with the autorigs.

Hi Michael, thank you for replying. Maybe I'm missing something, but as soon as I change the Hand FK/IK blend to 0 (and the FK kicks in), the rectangular hand control disappears, and the spherical wrist controls refuse to rotate. If you look at the .hip file I've uploaded (provided that sucker opens, I apologize if it doesn't), you can see it happening.

strange - I just made a Biped Rig and it works…
that file was made in Houdini 17.5.258
the current Production Build is 17.5.391 - can you try updating to that and try again

there have been some minor updates since then

Our lead animator/update wrangler is currently trying to secure the updates.
I guess there's no point in bugging you until that happens.

All right, update: installing Production Build 17.5.391 fixed the wrist issue! Hooray!!! My character is on his way to do the Macarena!

I'm not convinced that it was the build version at fault. I tried creating a new autorig in multiple versions and it worked in all, while that in your file didn't. Maybe it was a setting when you created it that bugged it out, or you did something, no idea, but if it's a bug that appears only in certain conditions, I'm sure it will resurface at some point.

Fair point, pickled. I'm about to autorig another character, so if the bug appears again, I'll make it known!
