Particle Fluid Surface SOP creating geometry though colliders

I'm pretty new to the flip fluids in Houdini. I'm trying to create the surface geometry for my fluid but notice that it seems to be connecting particles that are separated by a collision object. I do notice that there is a setting labeled "subtract collision volumes" under the regions tab, but it appears to do absolutely nothing no matter what I do with the settings. I would also prefer if the collision wasn't just boolean'd out, id much prefer if it didn't look like there was any surface tension between particles on one side of the collision.
