Hi there!

I'm trying to get my head around the license workflow in regards to Houdini. I tried to find detailed information about this in the documentation and the forum but I'm still confused about some points. This is my current understanding:

There are three license types, Houdini Core, Houdini FX and Houdini Engine. Core and FX are used for interactive Houdini sessions, e.g. an artist working with either a Core or FX version of Houdini. Houdini Engine can be either used for the engine plugin in third party DCCs e.g. Maya or Unity or for batch processes using Houdini (via hython). Batch processes could be run locally or on the farm.

I would be happy if anyone could point me to a place where this information is explained with all the juicy details!

My problem is now that we are having issues with Core and FX licenses getting checked out on the farm. How is this possible? Could there be a fallback system that if there are no Engine licenses available anymore, it will switch automatically to available Core or FX licenses? Whatelse could use a Core or FX license when running hython?

Thanks for any input!

Greets,
Carlo
