Material textures are from GreyscaleGorilla, although I used COPs triplanar projection to composite them together. COPs used for reverse animation effects, except for the frame blending by depth (which isn't currently possible in COPs so I did it with the OpenImageIO TOP node.)

I was experimenting with nodes to make a disintegrate effect because I am not familiar with disintegration setups. So, I was messing around with DOPs and somehow managed to make this.

This was challenging ! A simple custom infection solver was cached over each piece, then retimed to try and choreograph it all together.
Geo was handled with animated booleans using remesh and VDB's which was fiddley - would have been much easier in comp... but maybe not as much exercise on the old noodle.
I initially had some more turbulence in the pop wind - but I thought try and stay true to the great original.
This is an interesting effect to learn, I know it would look better with a material transition, better animated masked smoke emission and a nicer clean custom model
