Hello
First post here though I've been lurking for quite a while. I'm having a couple of problems:
1.
I'm experiencing consistent crashing on a simple DOPS network. I'm doing the excercise on .p286 of the Magic of Houdini book. It's a basic cloth sim where you have a ball and try to make a skirt (tube) fall down and come to rest on it. At step 7 when you merge the cloth object with the ball rbd object- and press play to run the simulation- it crashes with the Fatal Error Segmentation Fault (every time the number is different).
I've recreated the network a couple of times, and with different objects. eg instead of a tube as the cloth, I tried a simple grid. Instead of sphere rbd object, I tried it with a box. All give the same outcome.
2.
In the last few weeks: saving- After a couple of saves, be it incremental or saving on top, eventually it will freeze up. I normally know this is coming because if I choose to save file, the message that asks if I want to overwrite the file pops up, but without the sound effect. The next time I choose to save again, it nearly always freezes in the instant I click save. However, the file does get saved successfully which is some relief.
My setup is:
XP 32 bit
3 Gb ram
nvidia 8800GT
Already updated to the latest builds today of both the graphics driver and houdini (apprentice HD)- build 379.
I'm going to try out installing Linux on a partition asap and see if I can get by easier with Houdini on that, but in the meantime in case it doesn;t work out- do you have any suggestions? I've been searching and reading a load of posts on this forum and over at odforce. Someone suggested using an older nvidia driver, but on searching I've not come across specific recomendations.
Never had a problem with saving files in the past, even last month I was using it and saving continuously with no hiccups. I've had a general cleanup and uninstalled a load of expired demos and other programs that I never use just in case.
I will also submit the bug using the form.
Any ideas? thankyou
EDIT deleted the file attachment now the first problem is solved.

It's fine now. A good break away from the computer yesterday really helped as it was the first thing I noticed today.
