I'm brand new to Houdini using Apprentice 9.5.379 and I'm trying to do the projects in The Magic of Houdini Book. What version of Houdini does that book
reference and can you suggest a good way to address the discrepancies?

First of all, welcome to the forums!

The Magic of Houdini references Houdini 8.x and while there might be discrepancies, you shouldn't have too much trouble following the book.

If you hit a road block, just post it here & I'm sure someone will help.
