I can't seem to get Houdini 6.1.200 running properly under Win2K. It works, until it crashes (which is usually very soon.) When it does, I can't use it for the rest of the session, which is of course kind of annoying. And I usually even have to reboot in order to use other programs, like Photoshop, which Houdini seems to drag with it…
With the 5.5.x versions I've never had this problem. It were actually all the 6.x releases that gave me these errors under Win2K. I must note, the 6.x releases (including 6.1.200) do work fine under Linux (RH8.0).
My specfications
Intel Pentium 4 2.53GHz
512MB DDR-RAM
GeForce4 420 Go (32MB), with the latest driver installed
It works for me. I'm running a P4 3.06GHz machine with 2Gb of RAM, a GeForce4 Ti 4200 & Win2k with SP4.
Have you tried renaming or removing your houdini6.1 directory? Also, you might want to try installing older graphics drivers for your graphics card. I'm using the 44.xx series of drivers for my card instead of the 5x.xx series.
I've installed Houdini 6.1.200 after a fresh Win2K installation :? I did install the updates (and service packs) before I installed Houdini, just so you know.
I've tried Houdini 6.x releases in the past with older (44.xx version) video card drivers, but it didn't work then either.
Just wanted to say, that I have the same problem here. Since version 6.0 Houdini doesn't work anymore using Win2k (SP3), Geforce FX 5600. Houdini 5.5 is still working fluently (having it installed in parallel). Fortunately Houdini 6.x is running under Linux without problems, so this wasn't bugging me very much :-) btw: In Windows these crashes are often at times, when a new window should pop up (e.g. mplay, when starting a rendering)
