Thank you for your response.
Then, how do I get out of this mess?
I don't even use the Mixamo animation anymore.
When switching to the main, some of the nodes are not visible anymore, even though the visibility toggle is on.
But on the bright side, when switching back to the Mixamo take, it seems like the previously locked nodes and parameters have become unlocked.
So the state of my project is not as dire as I thought, but still it would be nice if I knew a way to fix this..

Hi, I am in the middle of a project, and for some reason, after opening the .hip again, the recently worked on sop level nodes become un-editable.
For example, when I want to toggle visibility, it says: Permission denied.
But these are not things containing imported locked HDAs, I don't have permission to edit my SOP level nodes, created by me.
Further more the parameters at sop level and inside the geometry nodes are greyed out, except for the ones I modified.
I have no idea why.
Less important:
Since I imported a Mixamo animation all of the parameters have this ugly color, where can I change this?

What if instead of sourcing from the center of the walker, you sourced from the pseudopods? Activate life expectancy for the source particles, have the FLIP Solver reap, and they will evaporate over time.
That is a great idea too, thanks for the suggestion. It looks pretty elegant in your GIF. I will try it out.
But I can't let go of my original goal yet. Mostly, because I feel like it shouldn't be that hard, but my knowledge of Houdini is lacking. Also it gives the creature a different vibe, not as menacing as what I was aiming for.
Any ideas as to why the collision geometry might not contain the particles?
My original goal was something like this:

Fluid or worm-like things flowing along and down the body.

I have been trying to have fluid flow down the legs of this procedural walker:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zH8F5CQerIE [www.youtube.com]
(One iteration was, using the Gas Target Force, as shown in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rs1Ig5bK0E8&t=1148s [www.youtube.com]
But since the Target is moving and deforming constantly, the liquid moving too hectically, and almost only situated at the legs in the back.
So I thought I would create a container around the walker, to stop the particles, from moving away from their target.
Walker geo -> VDB reshape SDF (dilate)
But I don't manage to create a collider, that contains the particles.
Can someone tell me how to set this up correctly?

Technical Discussion » How to center a walking character and invert the transform?

tamteThank you very much, this was very helpful.
I assume you are not using KineFX as that has its own Locomotion extraction tools, but for any cached deforming geo you can also use extract centroid and transform pieces
I had tried it with the invert transform, but I didn't manage to get it to transform the simulated fluid, in order to match the character's position. With your method, I could simply merge in the fluid before the "transformpieces_to_world".

I have a procedural walker, and want to use it as the target of a Suction Force DOP, to have liquid flowing around its body.
From what I have seen, the suction force yields better results, if the target is not moving.
I have seen people use a transform SOP and then an invert transform.
But I don't know how keep the character centered in X and Z, every frame, using the transform SOP.
Using Match Size, I can easily center the character on a per axis basis, every frame, but I don't know how to invert the transformation after, to get it back to its original position.

Hi, I am following a tutorial using the Skeletonblend, however on my end the result is completely different and unusable.
Can somebody help me with this? Not sure what is going on here..

Just curious if you guys think this is related.
Had issues with Vellum recently, where Houdini crashed when hitting play on Vellum sim, however I get no error message in console, it just crashes.
Almost instantly, no freezing, just crashes.
Edit: Okay, the mentioned Driver rollback indeed solved the issue.

Hatchery
Both work, i went for an older Nvidia driver beacuse I use Octane and their plugin is no updated yet for 19.5.408
What is confusing me about this, is the fact that Houdini 19.5.408 does not exist yet.
At least it is not in the download list.

I think you've just had the same issue i had - https://www.sidefx.com/forum/topic/87162/ [www.sidefx.com]
Hey, thanks for your reply.
Just to make sure:
- Staff was suggesting this was fixed in 19.5.408
- Underneath you were suggesting to downgrade the Nvidia driver..
Which one are you suggesting I follow?
I guess I will try it with 19.5.408 first, but just in case it doesn't work, which Nvidia driver version did you downgrade to?
Cheers

I just tried it using H19.5 and it worked for me. Consult the Support menu above and check the System Requirements. Perhaps your hardware does meet the specs?
I have seen multiple posts about OpenCL failures because of nVidia driver issues. You may want to check your driver version and see if there are any noted problems with it. I'm running 512.77.
Thank you for your response!
Hmm, hardware should be good, GPU is a RTX 3000 series, 64GB DDR4 RAM, B550 Motherboard.
Other HIP files open well usually.
I will see if Nvidia driver update fixes it, though I updated them just a few days ago.
I am running 526.47, alright, I'll check if this version causes issues. Do you know a good site for that?
Doing a quick search the first results show this driver version is lling issues in a certain game title, but I doubt that translates to Houdini..?
May I ask which Houdini build you are on? I am on 19.5.303 Py3.9
Thanks

Today, I finally wanted to take a look at the fabric samples. ( https://www.sidefx.com/contentlibrary/fabric-samples/ [www.sidefx.com] )
However, when highlighting the vellum solver and hitting play, ( I assume the same goes for the other ones, but I only tested the silk and the jersey), Houdini crashes every time, without showing any process being calculated in the bottom left of the window.
Can someone explain to me what the reason might be?
Am I overlooking something that needs to be cached first?
The file is for H18.5
I tried only tried it with H19 and 19.5, both py3 builds.
If someone from the SideFX team sees this could you maybe try to reproduce this, so I know if it on my end or not?
Or should I install 18.5?
In the past when opening old scene files, there seemed to be great backwards compatibility..
Thanks in advance.

Solaris and Karma » How to use json file to make Redshift custom builds work?

Hello, I have tried to install a Redshift custom build for Solaris and the regular OUT context,
meaning I would like it to work in both contexts.
Houdini/Solaris 19.5.303 plugin for Redshift 3.5.04
Downloadable here: https://redshift.maxon.net/topic/31230/houdini-solaris-plugins-custom-builds [redshift.maxon.net]
Tried it with the houdini.env file, but whenever I open the IPR window, Houdini crashes.
Someone in the comments suggested to use packages instead, but I am not confident modifying the lines myself.
That's what they sent me:
{
"env":[
{"RS_PLUGIN_VERSION" : "${HOUDINI_VERSION}"},
{"REDSHIFT_COREDATAPATH": "C:/ProgramData/Redshift"},
{"HOUDINI_PATH": "${REDSHIFT_COREDATAPATH}/Plugins/Houdini/${HOUDINI_VERSION}"},
{"PATH": "C:/ProgramData/Redshift/bin"},
{"PXR_PLUGINPATH_NAME" : "${REDSHIFT_COREDATAPATH}/Plugins/Solaris/${RS_PLUGIN_VERSION}"}
]
}
Would someone be so kind and explain to me how exactly I need to modify this text for it to work?
I am assuming it doesn't work like this straight away?
Things like: Do I replace {"RS_PLUGIN_VERSION" : "${HOUDINI_VERSION}"} with the exact version, like "Houdini/19.5.303"
Or is the advantage of packages that this is not necessary?

At the moment it looks fine in the license administrator.
But I still can't launch Houdini Indie.

Device name / the server (localhost) name didn't change. Only the server code changes.
In the license app the server name stayed consistent, just the server code is changing.
I just re-installed everything, that didn't help either.
