Houdini Crash when saving

Hi there,
I couldn't find any postings on this. My Houdini apprentice version doesn't allow me to save any new files. Even with a completely brand new, empty file. If I try to Save As, the entire system freezes up and I have to force quit. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall Houdini, my computer is cleared out (I only use an external anyway so as to not overload the system obviously). Its odd because if I bring a file that I have already worked on from school (and therefore previously saved the file on another system), it all functions just fine as long as I hit Command S and don't have the save dialogue box open up. This sucks though since I can't save multiple versions, and you have no idea as to how many times I have accidentally tried to do so - resulting in complete loss of my progress.

FYI, this only started happening a little while ago, when I initially downloaded Houdini it was all functioning quite well.

Here are my computers specs for reference. I appreciate any help. Thanks!

iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011)
3.4 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB

1. Revert your Preferences to default.

– For me it worked to reset the
“Preferences” option in the category
“File Choosers” back to …
“Houdini Chooser only”
