HI!

(I am using Houdini Apprentice 17.5.258)

I'm building a procedural House. The main body of the house is made in Houdini, and the windows and doors are imported in as .Fbx files that were created in Maya 2018.

I am having an issue when I am trying to merge everything together at the end of the build. I have my walls, roof, floors etc all set up to be controlled and my assets are in the same geometry node as the rest of it.

When I am rendering it all together, all I can see is the assets, and the other geometry made in Houdini is completely black. I can render them separately, but as soon as they are merged together they go completely black and I am unsure of what the reason for this is. the addition of lights and trying a different renderer makes no difference, so I've ran out of ideas.

Hope someone has any ideas, and thanks in advance

Hey Nicole,

could this be a normal problem? have u assigned normals to your generated geometry?

Cheers

Hi

After trying several things, including normal correction, I actually managed to resolve the issue, turns out it was a mismatch of attributes.

In case anyone finds this with the same issue, I'll explain..

My Houdini geometry had several more attributes in the geometry spreadsheet than my imported assets, which meant when I merged them, Houdini was trying to find attributes for them that weren't there (I think)

To solve the issue I used an attribute transfer node on both outputs to give them the same attributes, I then had to delete a few attributes (attribute Delete node) that weren't at all needed

Then I was able to render it all together

Still fairly new to Houdini but every day is a school day, it seems
