Blank Screen on external monitor after upgrading to Big Sur

Hi,

After upgrading my MacBook to Big Sur, all of Houdini's windows are blank after the splash screen. The menus are visible at the top of the screen, but the windows are blank / grey. (Newest version 18.5).

I have an external monitor hooked up to my eGPU (BlackMagic Radeon 580 Pro).

Interestingly if I open Houdini on my MacBook's screen, with the external display off, I see the UI. But if I turn on the external display, and drag the window over, I can't interact with it.

If I try launching Houdini with the external display active, the UI is once again blank. I can't get it to work at all at that point until I restart the computer and launch it on my macbook's built-in screen.

Wanted to see if anyone else had this issue and found a workaround? Perhaps some environment settings I missed?

Thanks for your time!

Hi,

I have repurposed an old Macbook Pro 2019 with a defective internal screen and am getting the same behaviour.

Although I have completely removed/detached the screen, so the macOS only sees the external display.

Can anybody help? Please.

H18.5.759 with Monterey

Thank you.

Alright, soemthing strange just happened.

While haveing all white Houdini Windows I went to the menu bar -> Windows -> move to and selected my iPad screen. That made Houdini windows show up as expected. Switching back now starts Houdini on the external Mac display just fine. Let's see how long this lasts

Monterey 12.3 and iOS 15.4

One more observation, if I add the iPad as a second screen Houdini also starts regularly. Also, all other applications using Qt and OpenGL now run fine. E.g. Nuke, Cura

I hope this helps someone.
