Hello I'm trying to retime a cached smoke simulation to create a slowmotion effect. For some weird reason at some very few frames the retime node deletes all the points carrying the volumes coming in. The simulation is split up to three caches I simulated separately to merge them afterwards. I use three identical retime nodes to retime all the volumes (density, vel.x, vel.y, vel.z) creating 280 new frames per cache. So accumulated I have 840 cache frames created and in one of the caches there are 8 frames (most of them adjacent to each other) with everything deleted.

It doesn't depend on the blend mode of the volume, the same even happens if there's no interpolation avtivated at all.

I have no idea what might be the reason here, do you have any guess?

I did some more research in my scene, and I was wrong about the cause for this error. It's not in the retime node but in the cache files delivering the smoke volumes. There are a few files the file cache node can not read. It returns the warning Backend IO and at some frames a cryptic code as Error attempting to read 16384 bytes of data (near byte offset 66060288, line 1, column 66060289)

Is this just a case of hard disk deterioration?
