Any way to use PolyReduce with rest geo on an alembic cache?

I'm wanting to PolyReduce an animated alembic cache, which I've converted to polygons.

I've tried plugging in the first frame of the alembic cache as the rest geometry on the PolyReduce node, but the topology still skips between some frames.

Does anyone know if this is possible to do this?

Hey mrpdean,

poly reduce the first frame of your mesh. then use the wrap node to bind your reduced mesh to the high res one.

I actually just did a test with a much simpler network and it does seem to work as it should.

It looks like I'm doing something to the Alembic cache somewhere along the network, before it hits the PolyReduce node, that is causing problems. I'll keep working backwards to see if I can find the culprit.

Otherwise I'll give your idea a go as it's a solution I hadn't considered.
