Extracting largest piece from a polygon soup based geometry?

If I want to extract the largest piece from a volume collection, the 'delete small parts' SOP only works if the geometry is polygon based. Why doesn't it work on polygon soup?

the "delete small parts" node uses the connected primitive area to determine the size.
