When I'm baking textures using Labs Maps Baker and with the viewport set to Vulkan, once the rendering progress window closes, X11 freezes for several seconds. At the same time
dmesgprints out the following timeout message:[Aug24 12:55] NVRM: Xid (PCI:0000:01:00): 109, pid='<unknown>', name=<unknown>, Ch 00000039, errorString CTX SWITCH TIMEOUT, Info 0x4c019
Now, if it was the first texture bake since the start of Houdini session, control over the program will be restored, but the viewport will be botched. It will display only some parts of geometry, regardless of which operator has the display flag, or will not render anything at all. If it was the second bake since the start of Houdini session, Houdini will freeze completely and its process will have to be killed.
The problem I'm describing does not happen with OpenGL viewport.
I did some digging and found two threads on NVIDIA forum that I think are related. Even though they both started in 2022, they're still very active:
- Xid109 CTX SWITCH TIMEOUT Driver Crashes In Many Applications [forums.developer.nvidia.com]
- Multiple CUDA/RTX/Vulkan application crashing with Xid (13,109) errors [forums.developer.nvidia.com]
Has anyone else experienced this bug on Vulkan?
Houdini 20.5.278, RTX 3070 (550.54.15), Debian Bookworm (GNOME/X11).
