Hi,
now that Houdini Indie is Releases, are there any plans for game assets tutorials? it would be very cool to have a tut on how to rig, animate and Export a character to UE4 or Unity3.
Anything like this planned?

Hey guys,
I'm a hobbyist game developer currently using Houdini Indie as my main pipeline tool for 3d content. Modelling in Houdini (and using Engine for Unity) is an absolute dream - creating variations of models is a breeze and makes for very rich scenes in Unity (and I imagine UE4).
However, the bones system implemented by Houdini doesn't translate very well to game engines - Unity uses a joint based system for character rigs (like Maya) whereas Houdini uses a bone based system. The two system seem, at first glance, very similar however I ran into show stopping issues that forced me to rig and animate in Max. I've not tested the latest builds but apparently there has been some changes to the .fbx export code. I'm currently exploring my rigging options - don't want to leave Houdini - its too good.
Also, you may want to check out GaTu - they have some great Houdini > Unity pipeline videos

Also, feel free to read my Houdini rigging nightmare in its full gory details here…

Before the March FBX fix, when I tried to import simple tube with two bones and animation as a Generic rig into Unity, it didn't worked. But after the FBX changes it works. Also, if you setup you character how Unity docs says, you could import it into unity as Humanoid rig and it will also work => http://wolfbrother.blogspot.com/2015/02/houdini-unity-ftw.html [wolfbrother.blogspot.com]
