Hey All,
I have 21.0.440 installed on Rocky 10, with KDE 6.3 Plasma.
The mouse scrolling works in the viewport of Houdini, but does not work in any of the context areas.
Thanks,
Todd Manus

Is anyone else having this issue? Also, I can't seem to see any daily builds for 21.0 to see if the issue has been addressed.

You might be running KDE under wayland? As I've also observed scrolling issues under wayland.
Running KDE under X11 should fix it.

I am running KDE under Wayland on Rocky 10
No other programs have scrolling issues... and scrolling works in Houdini in the viewport. It DOES NOT work in the context areas (OBJ, MAT, OUT, etc..)
This behavior DOES NOT happen in 20.5.684... 20.5.684 is fine.

Just a quick update:
Support knows about this bug, and other bugs related to Wayland. There is a workaround for this bug. Just hold down the spacebar while scrolling with the middle mouse button.

Just an FYI... X11 cannot be installed natively in Rocky Linux 10. XWayland is your only solution. This is according to the Internet forums and AI.. hahah and it is not in the repos.

I also contacted support and told them about the workaround with the spacebar. I hope they will still look at it, as the workaround does not work for say scrolling the parameter pane which can be quite annoying if youre used to it. I really hope they can iron those ones out, as it otherwise seems to be flawless on wayland so far! And a bit unfortunate, as it used to work just fine on Houdini 20.5.

The spacebar workaround helps in regards to zooming in and out but the parameter pane is a bit of a showstopper. Assuming that the parameter area itself is smaller than the parameter pane (so that the scroll bar doesn't appear) - scrolling up or down makes the parameters disappear for that entire type of node. Is there a workaround for that other than restarting houdini?

Any ETA on this bug fix? I never realized how much I rely on the middle scrolling. :-)

Just an update... it looks like SideFX has updated their requirements for Houdini 21:
https://www.sidefx.com/Support/system-requirements/ [www.sidefx.com]
"Note:The Wayland windows system is currently not supported."

This is changed from when August/September:
See attached.

Looks like SideFX has updated their website yet again in regard to wayland support.

Damn, I just started researching this and found this thread. Everyone is moving to Wayland so this seems like a strange oversight/bug! We need that support if we can get it.

Can confirm this is still a friggin' issue and it's very frustrating. I have multiple Linux bugs that make the whole Houdini situation the one snag in my Linux life (I've been in the process of switching the past month).

Currently running an Arch distro called CachyOS using KDE Plasma 6.6. I love it. Plasma is great. Cachy is great. Nuke works flawlessly. Games work flawlessly.

Houdini...it's the little things. The damn middle mouse button. Installing the QT5 version DOES fix it, however, V-Ray doesn't work in the QT5 version!

Furthermore, I have to downgrade to the 580 Nvidia drivers otherwise Houdini will randomly freeze up every few seconds to every few minutes. This isn't the end of the world, but I do experience some minor crashing in games I don't otherwise have.

Hell, I even got Anyware client working with Distrobox for the day job at the studio. It's literally these couple of small issues that can be quite a headache that are keeping me from completely formatting my Windows drive.

Anyone else have these issues or any workarounds?

Oh and by the way, I have tried myriad other distros and DE's at this point. The only DE I've found that doesn't seem to be problematic is Cinnamon. But also...gross.

Opinions aside... all the issues you mentioned, I can confirm still exist, including not using 590.x Nvidia drivers. We just have to wait and see what SideFX does with Wayland support. Nothing else can be done. It is a real shame that V-Ray does not work in Qt5. I feel your pain.

Yes, just circling back to this, I was also on the quest to try and find a solution for ANY of these, but alas, same issues you and others report are still there and to me, unless I am blind, I can't see anything on any roadmap or anything like that, that would indicate a fix is coming in the near future. We just need to wait for VFX houses to update from their ancient versions to get SideFXs attention on the matter. Since X11 just recently was shafted, it'll probably be a year or so before we see any real movement with Wayland and SideFX. Sucks absolute balls, but what can we do?

Also, Cinnamon works flawlessly? I might add it even as, you point out, gross!
