Hi guys,,
I'm not an architect, but use Houdini to bring rather dull CAD drawings to live.
I use “Polytrans” from Okino as interface between Solidworks and Houdini.
Polytrans does a great job in keeping the part assembly structure amongst different file formats.
Cheers
Anders

Found the problem.
It appears that the “Signal 11” originates from the video driver.
So reinstalling the driver curred the problem

Houdini Lounge » Fatal error

Hi all,,
I just had a power failure on my computer in the middle of a houdini session.
After reboot, everything appears to work fine, but houdini gives a “fatal error” while loading.
I have downloaded and installed the latest build, but with no luck. This makes me wonder if a system file has been corrupted during the crash.
My question is how to find or identify the source of the problem.
I looked through the crashlog, which states :

You can download the “Bolt asset” from houdini exchange.
Its basically just a boolean between a polywired helix and a tube.

I have no experience with Nuke, but the “composite” section in houdini might be what you are looking for.
Here's a little tutorial,

Houdini Lounge » SLI settings

Hi guys,
I know this might not be the right forum for the question, but her is my situation,
I have a i7 mobo with 12Gig memory and a GTX280 graphical card running kubuntu 9.04.
Running Houdini on this setup has been problem free, so I decided to buy a couple of
GTX295 to see if the “working enviroment” could get smoother running SLI.
My problem is that it actually speeds up the OpenGL enviroment but starting Mplay more or less craches the screen driver.
I'm running the nvidia 180.51 driver in SLI “AFRofAA” mode which seems to give the smoothest worksapce.
Does anyone in here have any experience in setting up SLI for best houdini performance??
thanks in advance
Anders

Houdini 10 on Linux(64bit) Kubuntu 9.04. The transit from win64 to linux64 has been improving the overall sensation of Houdini in such a way that there is no way back.

I am running Houdini on ubuntu 9.04(64 bit) recently and have no problems what so ever.
Your problem might be the screen driver. I had a similar problem with the licence server a while ago and it turned out to be a faulty screen driver that came with a OS upgrade( the repository drivers always seem to be acouple of versions behind)
Try downloading and install the latest screen driver for your system again
cheers

Hi all,,
A bit off topic, I have been running Houdini Vista 64 on a i7 3GHz with 12GB memory and a Asus GT280 graphical board. The Houdini app was crashing on average each hour and I therefor decided to give Linux a try.
I downloaded and burnt a CD image of Kubuntu 8.10,
Went through the installation process
Got the latest linux kernel though Adept installer
Installed the latest graphical driver from NVIDIA.COM
Installed Firefox
Installed Flash plugin for Firefox(32bit)
Installed Mplayer plugin for Firefox
Turned on PCM sound in the mixer
Downloaded and installed the latest Houdini linux 64 build.
and “voila” everything has been working like a charm ever since.
Houdini has been rock steady not a single crash in three weeks.
Graphics are in my opinion running faster than under windows
I can see and play all tutorials from SideFX, cmiVFX, CardanFX and 3DBuzz.
Linux lets me access the NTFS part of the disk and which is still need until I
find a way to run SolidWorks and Nugraf under Linux.
The whole process of installing Linux and hou lasted around 1 hour.
cheers
