He guys I'm not sure if this is a bug, or perhaps just me not doing something right. But when I bring a terrain in to Solaris it comes through fine in the Houdini GL veiwport.....but when I switch to karma it looks like a patchy volume. Do I need to convert the heightfield to polygons before bringing it over? Or is something else happening I'm not aware of. Here is some screenshots and a sample scene file. I'm using apprentice version 19.0.657. I appreciate any help you guys can give me. Thanks in advance.

Hey guys I had a couple of questions regarding the skylight. I have noticed that playing around with the location,date, and time doesn't affect the sky gradient like it used to in previous versions.
Also when I rendered out this simple scene I see the houdini watermark in the reflections. I don't remember that happening in the past. I am using the nc apprentice version 12.5.316.22. I just wanted another opinion before I log them as bugs. Thank you all in advance

Hello Since upgrading to 12.5 yesterday I have run into a problem with the polybevel node. Existing models I have created seem to be affected. Here is a sample image, and a simple hip file showing my problem. It worked fine on previous versions. It also seems to only happen with high density rounds as far as I can tell. Is anyone else seeing this? Thanks for all your help in advance Thank you sidefx for all the hard work on 12.5!!

Hey guys I'm currently just starting a underwater scene. It is very basic right now, lots of things to add, tweak or fix. I know modeling the seed weed, or grass might be a better idea. But I was curious as to why I got this fog like effect with the caustics, and fur. I have an area light shining though a displaced grid to get the caustics. I also have an environment light in the scene as well. I'm using the new hair model if that helps. I"m rendering with PBR. All the settings are pretty standard. Thanks for the help in advance

This is exactly what I was looking for! Works like a charm, you learn something new everyday The only downside is it tends to tear the grid a bit with true displacements on. Playing with the displace scale and bounds seems to have little to no effect. Well it seems to only tear with perlin noise, all the others work fine. Thanks again for helping me solve my problem

I played with the displacement scale value, and wasn't getting what i was after. I'm going to try the noise settings right now but Here is some pictures to help explain. The grid1 is just a regular 10x10 grid with noise at default values. Grid2 is 200x200. What I'm looking to do is try to get this to match grid1 to grid2 with the displacement noise. It seems the larger I make the grid the smaller the noise becomes at render time.

Hello I have a should be simple question on noise. I have noticed that if I make a grid for example 200x200. If I then apply a mantra surface shader to it with displacement noise on, I would have to zoom in really close to see it when I render. So I guess what I'm asking is, is there a way to scale up the noise to match the grid size? So I wouldn't have to zoom in so close to see it. Any help would be appreciated

I realize 4 gigs is pretty small, I plan on upgrading as soon as I can get some extra money.

It stopped crashing on me. But I might have found some steps to get it to crash.
1. Lay down a mantra surface shader in the material gallery
2. Go to the displacement tab, and check use displacement map
3. Enter the file browser uncheck show files as a sequence, and keep clicking the name, size, and last modified sorting filters randomly back and forth. Maybye throw in some scrolling up and down. After doing this a couple times it will crash each and every time. I have also noticed to get it to crash there has to be a few images in the directory ex. HIP/desktop for example. I believe I have a couple hdrs, exrs, and jpegs if that helps.

Hello Houdini keeps crashing while I'm in the file browser. More specifically If I'm trying to use a image for a displacement map, or loading up a exr in COPS. Sometimes while looking for the image scrolling down the list, or click accept it will crash, even if it is just a blank freshly opened scene with nothing in it. Is there some place I can find the crash log to post it? Here are my computer specs, and I'm using the latest production build of Houdini. Thanks for any help you can give me Sometimes it happens again and again, other times it won't crash.

Hi. I have recently encountered a problem with instancing while working on a project. When I try to instance objects to a group of points it will either not work, or as in this example file not instance to all the points in the group. This has worked for me fine in the past, but now it doesn't seem to be working. I'm using the latest production build. Here is an example file. I appreciate any help you can give me.

Hey guys I was just playing around with instancing teapots. Went to render them, and they rendered fine. Added another camera with a different angle, and I get this error message. Here is a hip file. I'm using the latest daily build. Cam 2 renders fine, though cam 1 seems to always crash. Thanks in advance I thought it might be my lower end computer, but why would it render for one camera, and not the other?
