Hi, I played around the cloth_dynamics_using_noisy_forces_v001_670.hip file, and noticed something.. it seems like the Wind Force is overwriting the Gravity Force. Is there a way to blend those two?
I tried changing some of the parameters to no avail. The only time I can see the effect of the gravity is if I disable the Wind Force, or just input a negative Y (-9.80665) for its velocity.
I was hoping that having both of those Forces as separate DOPs will each have their share of effect on the the cloth objects. (Gravity+Wind)

Hi, I know this is quite old, I just wanted to say thanks for the lengthy reply, it touched upon quite a few quirks that users new to Houdini might find really useful.
I agree, “When to use the Attribute name or the Variable name” got me confused — it still does sometimes.
Another thing that confused new users like me is the use of the terms “Points” and “Vertices”.. I almost always thought of those as one.
But after reading the help [sidefx.com] a couple of times (and through tests/exercises), it made more sense.
EDIT: I found another very insightful (although lengthy - but worth the read) thread regarding insights on Houdini - from the same author!

I was also curious if the interactivity extends inside POPs.
Currently, if say I have a Force POP and change some of the noise parameters, I would have to go back to frame 1 and play the animation in order for it to cook and see the results.
Is there a way to interactively see my adjustments in the viewport at say frame 50 without going back to frame 1 every time?
Thanks,
Jeff

I wish to also extend my thanks to robonilla for taking time into solving this
It solved a problem I was having in two ways:
A. Increase the Bullet Substep from 10 to 50.
B. (or) Change the solver from Bullet to RBD.

Finally found the problem, and it was such a newbie mistake ops:
On a simple working scene.. the clue I found was that the DOP Network had the parameter Time Step colored Green. But on my ‘non-working’ scene.. the same parameter was colored Cyan.
Then looking through the help file, it mentioned that a cyan colored paramter may have the current frame not be a keyframe.
So I looked at where my current frame is.. and lo and behold, I was not at frame 1 while while doing the RBD Point Object procedure!
Lesson learned.. (which I now remember the tutorial was constantly reminding the viewer).. always go back to frame 1! :!:
I also learned that Houdini saves your current time with the file.
Thanks again Rob for having patience to new guys like me

I would re start HoudiniYou got it!
I did a simple restart and I now see a right-click menu for adding my shelves back:
Thanks a bunch Rob

Jeff
P.S. I suppose it's a minor bug?

Thanks again Rob
I did a test on just simple boxes and took close attention to what's happening inside the autoDopNetwork, I'm beginning to have a much clearer sense of the flow. Working it off from a much simpler scene helps make me understand it much easier.
I'll update this thread if I find the source of the problem.
Thanks and kind regards,
Jeff

Hi, I've attached a scene where I followed the Go Procedural Lesson 1 Quickstart tutorial.. and I'm kinda stuck with the part where I'm supposed to use the RBD Point Object to instance the columns to the points of a polygon circle for rigid body simulation.
What happens in my scene is that the columns would just disappear after the operation.
But I did test it on a new scene with just a Box, and it works.
Regards,
Jeff

Hi Rob,
Thanks, I did try that option before.. sadly no luck.
I was experimenting with Desktops and created a layout with only the Scene view and Network view displayed Thus my custom desktop doesn't have any shelves.
So Reloading the current desktop only restores it to my custom desktop - without the shelves.

Hi, I removed a shelf set using this option:
Then after removing every shelf, I found that the blank space left won't allow me to add my shelves again.
Is there a way to restore the shelves maybe through a right click option?
- - - - - - - - - -
I did find this hscript from the forums [sidefx.com]:
shelfdock -o 0
But it only opens/or closes the dock.
So after searching the help for other options for the shelfdock
I found this from the samples:
shelfdock -d Build add shelf_1 shelf_2
It works, and restores the shelves.
I was just wondering, if there is some kind of a shelf editor somewhere?

Hi, I'm quite new to houdini and I'm starting out with the basic modeling stuff.
Currently, I find it quite confusing distinguishing between my Templated objects and the Construction Plane, I just a a few questions:
1. Is there a way to change the opacity or intensity of the Construction Plane?
2. In ortho views, the Construction Plane always seems to draw over my objcts, making it hard to see my lines in wireframe view. Is there a way to adjust that?
3. Is there a way to adjust the thickness of the Construction Plane grid lines?
I attached an image of the problem.
Thanks!,
Jeff
