TIL: Do not do confetti if you're not going to render at a high resolution and be able to encode nearly lossless…

Didn't get nearly as far as I would have liked with this one. Hard thing to nail in a day.

Technical Discussion » Redshift Install breaking Mantra on Linux

Actually, I think it's not Redshift breaking anything. This has only happened since I installed Redshift but I was reading the logs incorrectly maybe. Arnold renders fine; Redshift renders fine; Mantra does not render at all, even when I remove Redshift and Arnold from my environment.

I'm currently running Houdini 16.5.268 in CentOS 7. I have Redshift 2.5.49 installed and Arnold as well. Currently, if I drop down a mantra node in even the simplest of scenes, I get a lot of strange Redshift messages in the terminal when I attempt to render. The renderview says Generating Scene; the scheduler says the mantra process is running. I get the following output in the console.

Is this some kind of weird configuration error? Anyone seen this? I can't render in Mantra at all.

Technical Discussion » Can't create metaballs

I've run into an issue today where I cannot create a metaball in Houdini. I've tried in builds 480, 516, 523, and finally downloaded 632 and I still have the issue. If I create a geometry node, go inside, press tab and type metaball, I click it and nothing happens. No node appears. If I click on Metaball on the create tab, nothing happens. If I control+click on the Metaball icon on the create tab, still nothing happens. For some reason, I cannot create metaballs. I've updated my graphics driver. No luck. Has anyone run into this before? Thoughts?
I'm running a brand new install of Houdini 15.5.632 on Windows 7 professional, SP1.
