In the end I deleted my preferences folder and got the default behaviour back. Would be nice to know where the setting is still though!

Hey all, silly question but I couldn't find this setting to revert anywhere. I was debugging some python and pressed the “send future errors to console” button by mistake. It was actually really useful to pop up for me with the error and I'm not sure where to revert the setting!
Thanks!
Thanks!

I've only worked through tech rigging 5 but what's the problem exactly you're having, might be something I can help with anyway though I can't say I've had any experience building an IK to FK button ops:
Side note to this thread though: There were a couple of things that tripped me up along the way, mostly to do with the python scripting where what he wrote didn't quite work for me. It ended up just being case sensitivity and making sure slashes were put in the right places. Seemed to be a little more lenient for him in the video than me!

I like the integration of the dust, you could make it move faster I think and give it some radial velocity emitting outwards so it doesn't rise straight up as much but spreads out!

Just wanted to confirm I was able to follow it all without a problem. Probably one of the best tutorials I've seen on Houdini.
I wonder how much of it now might be better tackeld in VOPS/wrangles as opposed to expressions but still, this was a top training video.

Hey guys, I'm just working through Houdini Technical Rigging 5, it's an absolute treasure trove of information but I was wondering something.
As it's a tutorial made in an older version of Houdini, while it's so far it's been no problems implementing what the tutorial shows (and it works great) would it be the way any of you would approach rigging a vehicle like this in the current version?

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » Wheel Rotation along path

Been at this for a bit now and am a bit stuck ops:
I've got 4 points conformed to a surface with ray. The object is parented to a Null and that is being animated with a curve and the path object parameter at object level. I have a wheel aligned to it using the Copy SOP.
I have a working wheel rotation setup based off distance, but it doesn't want to work when it's copied onto the point. It is rotating, but in a strange way and I can't figure out why as it's working if I animate it inside it's geometry node with a transform.
Any help is much appreciated, thanks all!

Just make sure you have “render light geometry” ticked if you want to see the background in your render.
Both images have the same alpha just in one the background is visible and one it's not. I rendered out to exr rather than tif too.

Thanks for being so helpful, I certainly need to pay more attention to the settings and expressions used on nodes!
With your help I got a result I'm happy with now, and learnt lots in the process about setting up the switch solver.

I've had a play with the switching between solvers but I can't seem to get it to switch back to RBD after a few frames of collision as a cloth object. The object seems to lose all motion.
I was trying to pull the deformed object back into another RBD object and switch to that but had no luck if that is even the best way to do it!
Any help once again would be hugely appreciated

Ahh ok, it makes sense now! I was getting that error and not understanding what it meant. Thanks for clearing that up and posting the example file!

Hey guys, just having trouble setting up a simple switch solver scene.
I have a bullet and cloth(FEM) solver and wish to switch from rbd to cloth at frame 6. I've set up my file similar to the help example but I can't seem to get any switch to occur. The help file also seemed to have a problem so it wasn't very helpful in the end!

Hello all,
Been learning how to use Houdini for most of this year, I don't really get any opportunity to use it on a daily basis as I work mainly in Arch Viz currently so it's been a slow and steady evening/weekend schedule of learning and tinkering.
This is my first finished project that hasn't been following a tutorial, there's so many gaps that you learn to fill when working on something of your own rather than a tutorial so it was quite the learning curve but hugely fun at the same time.
Thanks for reading/watching!

Here's an example where I've built up a local co-ordinate system and assigned to the orient value which the copy SOP uses if it's available. Hope it makes sense!

Not quite sure what you mean but if you untick “Transform using template point attributes” does that rotate how you would like it to?
edit: that checkbox is in the Copy SOP
