On May 27th 2016 the Houdini Community suffered a loss when Chris Maynard of cmiVFX passed away. Chris was a long-time supporter of Houdini and worked with talented artists to create an impressive library of Houdini learning materials. Our condolences go to his family and friends and we are sorry for their loss. You can read more about Chris here:
http://www.obitsforlife.com/obituary/1331671/Maynard-Christopher.php [obitsforlife.com]
You can also hear Chris talk in his own words in his last interview:
http://thevirtualassist.net/chris-maynard-cmivfx-owner-interview/ [thevirtualassist.net]
cmiVFX is going to continue. The team there will post more information about that some time soon. A gofundme campaign was started for his family but was taken down to give the family time to grieve. If it is reposted, we will add the link here.

The journal (renamed the Changelog) is now available natively on the new website:
http://www.sidefx.com/changelog/ [sidefx.com]
This should work more effectively and won't require a redirect to the old site.
Thanks for your patience as we migrate to the new site. Downloads and the Store are now being worked on!

tutorial section:
i just made a tutorial and i can't add a hip or a zip file. it would be nice to add this functionality otherwise i have to link it to another site.
the tutorial builder misses a code block element.
i also can't delete tutorials where are in draft mode.
We will be adding the ability to upload files in the future. For now, you can host the files on someplace like dropbox or google drive then you can add the link to a button in the tutorial layout.

Hey guys! great to see this come online!! congrats!!
one thing I cannot seem to find is the old daily build download page (which shows multiple versions/builds of Houdini available to download). Is there a way to reach that page or is it still under construction?
The download page can now be accessed from GET > DOWNLOAD.
Please note that the downloads, daily builds and store are all being “borrowed” from the old site. That is why they are a bit slow at the moment. our goal is to eventually replace these elements with “native” elements on the new site.

FYI: there are public links to the Houdini 15.5 docs, although you still need an account with valid access permissions to reach it, it seems.
Oops - I have turned those off for now (although they may be back up really really soon…..)

That is in the works - we hit a small glitch in transferring it over and we are working on it today. It should be back soon.

The site is still technically in beta and we will continue to review and address the feedback provided last week - those forums disappeared from the final forum but they are available to us.
I will set up a new website feedback thread for people to add new feedback.

This weekend we are transitioning to the new website at www.sidefx.com - the old site will be known as archive.sidefx.com and still be available during the transition. There may be shutdowns on the site this weekend and the forum will be locked when the posts have been moved to the new forum.
Please note that we are still working on the site and look forward to getting your feedback. Please post any issues to this thread.

My impression of the main pages that you get to after clicking on film or games or whatever, is that all the info seems quite vague and hidden. I think the sort of people looking for houdini would be looking for more concrete straight up examples of how houdini works and what it can do - eg. with more concrete info (text/images) showing why houdini is different to other 3D apps.
If I was considering houdini for the first time, I'd be more impressed by seeing in-situ screenshots and animations of houdini producing great things - eg showing the power of procedural workflows, rather than assorted renders and quite general marketing text.
My 2c!
These pages are overview pages. Each section will get a “Learn more” button which will lead to pages with screen grabs, videos and feature details.

It looks very nice, indeed!
I hope it will still keep some of the current´s site info regarding Schools? It took us a lot of work to become a certified school! 8)
Check out the Education section in the footer - Certified schools are featured in the schools section

We have been hard at work on a new website and it is available now in beta form at:
http://beta.sidefx.com [beta.sidefx.com]
To see the site you need to log on using your existing profile.
• Please contact us at webmaster@sidefx.com with any login issues.
• Please post any beta feedback to the new forum.
Here is a quick outline of the keys features of the site:
• Responsive Design - this site is designed to be seen on desktops and on mobile devices - please test in different scenarios.
• Forum - this site has a “out of sync” forum which is for testing purposes only - anything you post will not be part of the final published forum. Please try it out to test its features but be aware that these posts will go away when we launch. When we go public there will be a sync with the existing sidefx.com forum so that messages are not lost.
• Tutorials, Stories and News are available for viewing. Please review these for readability and layout - The tutorial page has filtering to help find the lesson you need. Please test this and let us know how it works for you.
• Profiles - An important feature of the new site is your profile - you can create a public profile which includes social media links and portfolio pieces.
• Galleries - Please add content here to help grow the Gallery. You can also publish your own tutorials.
• User Tutorials - You can also add your own tutorials to the site - go to your profile and click the edit icon (gear) - you can add tutorials using the tutorial tab.
• Product section - These are broken down into Film/TV and Games.
There are some key elements that are not yet on the beta site - these will be added soon:
• Download
• Store
• Journal
Please test the site as much as you can. Any feedback we get now will help ensure a better experience for the whole community when we launch.
Thanks,
Robert

If you put down an hqueue ROP down in Houdini and select the cloud radial tab then you can choose the machine type and the price will update based on your choice. This is the most up-to-date way to learn what each machine type costs.

There is currently no plan. We want to make sure that the existing plug-ins (Maya, Unity, Unreal) that SideFX is developing are in top shape before we explore other plug-ins. A small test was done for Modo but there are no official plans to take it any further. If that changes in the future then an announcement will be made.
