I get this error maybe twice a day …. I have looked at all the tips that cover it
* Houdini License Server (sesinetd/sesinetd.exe) is not running
* Houdini License Client (hserver/hserver.exe) is not running
* The firewall blocks the communication on ports 1714 and 1715
* If installing the license server and client on the same machine, it could be that Houdini wasn't installed using administrative privileges(root/Administrator).
It drops out normally when I try rendering using the render region.Does anyone else suffer from this >?

hey guys,
i'm dealing with a project here that is currently impossible to work with…
using windows xp sp2, 9.5.190, laptop with core duo 2ghz, 2gb of ram
i'm working with geometry generated by metaballs (~5000 metaballs, geometry at 400.000 polys)
when converting the metaballs to polys and also when i have that geometry cached and apply some vop sop stuff on top of it i get constant memory allocation errors while the taskmanager shows houdini is only using 500mb, and only 1.3 of 2 gb of ram are used in total
i've tried playing with the sop caching options, with no results so far.
anything else i can do? there was a discussion about this happening with fluid sims before (that thread is locked now), with the conclusion that this only works well on 64bit builds… but how is it possible that houdini uses only a fraction of the available memory and says goodbye?

I have got license error from build .189 to .191
“License Error: Unable to connect to hserver fro license acquisition”
just before Houdini welcome screen
But it starts ok and it works without any problem on HD license.

I am trying to compile a 32-bit DSO on a 64-bit machine. I've hacked the hcustom script with the following:

Possible bug: when changing the translate plane on the transform handle, it fails to update the change until the view is changed. I'm accessing these with hotkeys so I'd like it to change immediately without moving the view, otherwise the workflow is slowed down.

on an additional note, I'd like to share a request for enhancement for the transform handle. Houdini is the only major 3d package I know of where you need a menu or hotkeys to change the “translate plane”. Max has a really big gizmo that makes it easy to grab the xy, yz, or xz plane on the transform handle. In XSI, grabbing in the middle will move it in screen space, and when the mouse hovers around, the “transform plane” will automatically change logically based on the mouse position. It makes for really fast transforming workflow (scaling as well).
I'd like to see something like this (or even better!) for Houdini!
A really cool feature in Maya (though I've never been a big maya user), especially for animators, is the ability to click the translate or rotate handle, then hold down a hotkey, and click-drag the mouse anywhere in the viewport, which will act as if the handle was pulled. This allows for repeated movements without having to go back and keep clicking the thin transform handle.
While we're at it, it would also be nice to have a hotkey to be able to snap the rotate handle to desired increments. I can't tell you how many times I've used the angle snapping in 3ds max to quickly move from 0 to 90 degrees, and have it snap by adjusting the rotation in 5 degree increments.
An alternative to implementing all these enhancements would be to open up hooks to allow us to script our own, or modify, transform handles with python. Thanks guys for making Houdini as awesome as it is, let's open it up so we can do more with the interface!

Hi,
i'm starting to bulid some nodes with VEX biggrin.gif but today i found a problem, i think it's a bug but this is the porblem anyway.
This i the script:

Hi!
I'm going insane with this one….
I'm doing a strechy leg setup on a character and everything works fine except for the deformation itself. It seems that even thought I change the bone length, the bone doesn't stretch properly at all, it kind of stretch and translate along the bone at the same time…
Here's an exemple file to show my problem…it was done in 9.5 by the way…
Please, can somebody show me the light on this one….Thanks!!

I am new to Houdini (Hello everybody by the way). I just bought Houdini HD and I am trying to download it, but there is no way to do it over a slow dial-up line. The server does not have support for ‘resume download’ in case the line is disconnected.
The problem is, I believe, that the server gives you a session key that expires too quickly, so in case of a disruption the download manager cannot go back to where it left off.
So what am I supposed to do?

Hi…..
For a Vray procedural that I am writing, there is a object in camera space. Its transformation Matrix is Matrix A. I want to transform the object to the centre , rotate it and transform to the original position.
Lets say B = A inverse
R = Rotation matrix
So the final transform is F = A*R*B
But the problem is that, I am not getting “B” right.
My Matrix A is
1 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 -1 0 0 0 20 1
I am using A.invert(B) to invert A and place the result in B.
When I print B, it is same as A
1 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 -1 0 0 0 20 1
Why I am not getting the right inverse???

for some reason using the help browser in Houdini 9.5.171 I get none of the small help images / icons show up. The help works sometimes if I use it in Firefox using http://localhost:48626/. [localhost] But then I can select a link and then get the unable to connect warning page in Firefox.
What settings do I have to alter for the Houdini help to work correctly ? .
I have to say the help has always caused problems in Houdini for me. I thought it was supposed to be all fixed in 9.5 ?

any simple way of getting help to work with 9.5? Whenever i click on help, the hbrowser locks up, then locks up houdini!
The Mozilla/Documents folder has gone - to houdini/help? but everything i can find refers to the Mozilla/Documents location. Is there one single file that can be set to fix the help location?
Failing that, how can i get the help to show in an external browser?

I' ve downloaded the newest Houdini for OSX 10.5. I'm running it on dual 2.16 macbook pro. It takes me through the installation past the license agree button, then it says install on this computer, but the continue button or the install for all users on this computer wont come up live. I can only go back. I'm the admin and signed in as such. Assistance please.

Hi, for some odd reason i can´t type backslash (`) char in textport. I can type it elsewhere.
