Installing on atomic desktops Feb. 21, 2025, 12:51 p.m.

So far the closes I manged to get was when installing inside the distrobox container.
I this setup I can start houdini and the GUI shows up, but when I start using it (open the add node dropdown) it crashes with the following crash log:

Installing on atomic desktops Feb. 21, 2025, 12:24 p.m.

Hi!

I'm having trouble installing Houdini on my Fedora Kinoite setup.
On these systems the typical recommendation is to install using an AppImage or flatpack, but I couldn't find any for houdini so the second option is to either install into the uers's home folder or use a distrobox for installation.

I have tried both of these but didn't have any luck.
the main cause of the problem is that houdini really wants to install some components into specific folders that it shouldn't install into, according to packaging best practices.

Its seams like the license server can't be installed in any other location than the usr/lib folder
But his is a read only place in atomic distro setups.

Would it be possible to get some support on how to setup Houdini on these systems, as they are getting increasingly popular, especially given how much extra stability they can provide.

Can't install Houdini. Exit code 127. Jan. 16, 2025, 4:47 p.m.

Hi!
I'm having this exact same issue when trying to install inside a distrobox container.
I'm getting the "Worker process terminated unexpectedly. Exit code 127". can you explain what you did to fix it?

I'm running the following commands:
> distrobox create houdini
> distrobox enter

//inside the box
> sudo dnf group install base-graphical core fonts multimedia
> sudo dnf install kate strace
// this is the installer form the website
// I let it install to where it wants
> ~/Downloads/_Installs/install_houdini_launcher.sh
> /opt/sidefx/launcher/bin/houdini_launcher
I'm on Fedora 41 Kinoite (Atomic distro, KDE)

Any help would be apreciated

EDIT:
When I try to install the non launcher version, it finishes fine and i can launch the editor.
However it crashes instantly with the following crash log:

EDIT2:
When I create the distrobox with ``--nvidia`` and install using the non-launcher installer.
It does start up but crashed when I try to open the add node dropdown and searching around.
