Houdini Crashes on Pyro divsize 0.1 Feb. 26, 2018, 3:13 a.m.

Hi Enivob,
Have you found a workaround to the crashing issue you had?
I faced similar issue recently. Tried various Operating systems and Nvidia driver versions, which did not help.
The actual issue was with Bios Cpu Overclock settings, Changing it to auto mode seem to have solved the issue. Hyperthreading is enabled and I am able to run Pyro without system freezing.

Hope this helps.

Thanks to Mehdi Daghfous and Saber Jlassi for pointing me to the right direction.

Thomas

Houdini crashing while using smoke solver/pyro Feb. 25, 2018, 2:31 p.m.

Hi Everyone,
Houdini is crashing for me and freezing the desktop while running pyro. Pyro div size to 0.2 runs okay for a bbox size of 10 x 10 x 10 default units. However with div size of 0.1 it crashes even for less size bbox, it crashes the system too. After few minutes windows shows a blue screen which says system needs to be restarted and the error is: DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION.
I have to hard reboot the system to get the access back, some times more than once. I understand houdini crashing, if the file is heavy, but why freeze the system.

I am using Intel corei7-4770 hyperthreaded to 8, 32GB ram, and nvidia-gtx760 with latest Nvidia drivers(390.77) . Installation is on Samsung SSD 860 Evo. Using Windows 8.1 Pro.
Tested using Houdini FX 16.0.736, Houdini 16.5.323 and Houdini 16.5.378 (apprentice version)

I switched off the cache Simulation on DOP Network, tried with and without use opencl option checked.

Tested the latest apprentice version in Centos, 6.6 and 7 on the same hardware, it crashes. There is no error shown in Centos, it just freezes.

I am using a file with sphere 1 0.6 1 unit size to create density and temperature using a fluidsource node.
Inside dopnetwork only four nodes used. smokeobject1, gasresizefluiddynamic1, sourcevolume1 and smokesolver1

Can anyone shed some light into what might be causing the issue? Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks
Thomas
