Mac OS X slow rendering to MPlay Nov. 7, 2014, 5:13 p.m.
When rendering out to Image Viewer/MPlay on Mac OS X, I ran into an issue where I'd leave a render job overnight only to discover that a handful of frames got rendered. The frames take on average a minute or two each to render, so the numbers definitely don't add up.
What I believe is happening is that App Nap is kicking on for MPlay when the machine is ‘idle’, heavily degrading its performance to the point where renders are performed incredibly slowly.
Disabling App Nap (globally or for MPlay individually) seems to resolve it.
I couldn't find any other posts about this issue, so hopefully this helps anyone else running into the same problem.
