Hmm. It's all fine until I move the object.

Oh, context. Right!

I've been throwing some wires about and it's gone really well. Until I pour them into a cup and attempt to move said receptacle. Then they interpenetrate and eventually fall through (or hang half-way). Which means at their destination, they are not in a hurry to pour out either. The cup IS moving at a decent clip but no matter how I've set up my volume collision parameters, the same thing happens time and again.

I have no problem with long sims or turning up numbers to stupid if that's what works. But so far it hasen't.

Are volume collision objects the only ones that work with wires? I can't suss out how to use geometry or ODE..

Any help appreciated. I'm pulling my hair out here.

Cheers,

have you tried upping the number of substeps in the DOP container?
Just a guess, but since you said any help is appreciated!

No real effect I could find.. The numbers I was getting up to in an attempt to stop the interpenetration were getting silly and sim times getting impractical.

I did eventually work around the problem. For now anyway. I build “sides” to the (squareish) cup out of implicit boxes and used an animated ground-plane as the base. It was enough to impart the proper motion to the wires and much faster than the ray-intersect volumes I'd been trying to use. No interpenetration or any other artifacts so far.

Still a cludge though, I'd really like to work it out properly but have to move on. Perhaps later. Too bad the wiresolver doesn't have a “resolve penetrations” parameter like the RBD has…

Still pretty sure it's something I'm doing wrong :-).
