I need some help with atmosphere lighting…

It just doesn't seem to like me. I mean, I create a light, and an object. Then I create one of those lbeam things, with “normal” parameters, and make it a cone light, and nothing comes up. Well, the teapot is illuminated, but no atmosphere lighting.

There is nothing in the tutorials about that, and if anyone has an example file, I would be gratefull. The center piece of my animation lies in that illumination effect.
